Template references
Every star use <template> argument is parsed by the same small grammar — at the CLI argument
layer, so malformed references are usage errors before any command logic runs.
The three forms
| Form | Meaning | Repository resolution |
|---|---|---|
rust-cli |
unqualified name | search all configured repositories |
jingus/starters#rust-cli |
namespace-qualified | must be configured |
https://git.jingus.dev/jingus/starters#rust-cli |
URL-qualified | ad-hoc: clone at remote HEAD, no config entry, no pin |
Error behavior
- A bare URL without
#nameis an error with the fix appended (…#rust-cli) — a URL names a repository, not a template. - Unknown namespaces get a did-you-mean over your configured namespaces. Namespaces must match config keys exactly.
- Unknown template names get a did-you-mean over the applicable name space (one repository, or all of them).
- Malformed references fail with one error per way the grammar can be violated: empty reference, missing repository, missing template name, bare URL.
