star
A simple yet capable template management system.
Scaffold projects from templates hosted in remote git repositories — likenix flake init -t, but driven by tiny star.toml manifests, with repository management, commit pinning, and interactive disambiguation built in.
in active development — the CLI grammar is complete, commands land per the roadmap
blast off
star is a single binary. Grab it with the package manager you already love.
# run star without installing anything $ nix run git+https://git.jingus.dev/star/star -- --version # or install it into your profile $ nix profile install git+https://git.jingus.dev/star/star
more options (flake inputs, building from a checkout) in installation

Add a repository, scaffold from it, pin it, love it.

why star
Any remote, any forge. star shells out to your own git, so SSH keys, credentials, and proxies just work.
Every configured repository is locked to a commit. Scaffolding is reproducible until you say otherwise.
Any directory with a star.toml is a template — even an empty one. No registry files to keep in sync.
Two repos ship the same template name? star asks which one — or tells you the exact command to run.
Confirmation before writing into non-empty directories, traversal-safe extraction, symlinks kept on a leash.
Build and run via nix today; flake-template discovery and a star.nix module system are on the horizon.
